There’s a common misconception that glass railing systems are tougher to maintain and keep clean. Many people believe that the glass is constantly dirty and the home owner is spending far too much of their free time wiping and wiping again.

That’s simply not true. Outdoor glass railing systems are actually easier to keep clean than regular railings and, if you live in Vancouver, you have a natural helper to make the task even easier. Here are a couple of things to do to clean and maintain your glass railings.

Keep it clean

Things that stay outside year round are going to get dirty and you will have to clean them off. Glass railings are no different. But one of the great advantages of having a deck railing in Vancouver is that all the rain can help you. Just wait until after a good rainfall, get out the squeegee, and whisk that water away.

If you want to use a little dish soap (3-4 squirts in a bucket of water) or vinegar (1 cup vinegar to 2 cups water), use a non-abrasive scrubber or piece of cloth and clean away. Once you’ve gotten rid of the dirt and bird poop, spray it off with a hose and let it air dry.

Check the brackets

Every month, check the brackets and supports that are holding the glass railing system to the deck or house. Look for loose spots, corrosion, or any signs of mold, insects, or other living things. It’s a good idea to give the railings a gentle shake to make sure that they’re still strong and well supported. If anything looks wrong, call for installation repair.

With just a few simple tools that can be kept on the deck, such as a squeegee and a dry cloth, it’s easy to maintain a beautiful glass railing system. Panorama Railings will put it up for you, and you’ll be amazed how easy it is to take care of.
